The best way to increase you catch totals boil down to a few very simple things.
1. Getting out during the off season and watching you target critter(s). I use binoculars or just the naked eye.
2. Pictures. Pictures will tell you 1000 words. I use a camera when just watching animals or a trail cam set at trails, and moc sets.
3. Preseaon scouting, this can not be stressed enough.
4. Taking daily note while trapping. Your notes do not have to be complicated, just what type of set, bait/lure used, what size trap. And catches at each set.
Trapping is 90% hard work, 2.5% knowing you target animal, 2.5 luck. Remember you make your own luck by the hard work and knowledge.

I have to add that i feel the best advantage you could have on the trap line is just plain knowing the habits of the animal you are trapping. I will use my experiances to explain what i mean. The perfect example is the bottom edge set for mink so say you walk up to a bridge and make a BE set well why did you just do that? There was'nt a track there, there wasnt any scat there, there wasnt a trail, so y did you just make that set there? Because your aware of that animals habits and the same goes for every animal. Yes alot can be said for pre-season scouting and such and i do do all that pre season work also but i dont depend on sign for a trap location i depend more on my knowledge of that fur bearer and its habits.
