here is the way i make a pocket set.the same set up can catch coon and rats. this location the water is shallow.so for coon use a drag or a drowner to pull the coon away from the pocket.if you don't the coon will make it worthless for mink.if you can not use a drag or drowner then just move the next pocket set a few feet from the old one.once it has produced the set will only get hotter. after you find a steep slanted bank ,dig you a pocket about 5 to 6 inches wide and 15 inches deep, now smear the mud a round the pocket set ,make sure you slick it real good.thats all you need for mink and coon but to really pull the coon add some feathers around the side of the bank.the slick bank really gives the pocket set eye appeal and they can see it from a distance the feather i used to guide the mink closer to the other edge of the pocket set.now with coon and mink leave the guide stick off

tommy the problem with slicked up pockets if you look at the difference in the two pictures the bottom one sticks out loud and that draws coon hard, now once the coon is caught some times the coon will tire the set up and you have to move it a few feet from the old one, also let me point this out as well, for mink you want the bank to be fairly steep because this will often force the mink to the water ,

Bill, if you catch a coon in it, wouldn't it make it more appealing or would it be to messed up?

ole yea it will be hotter but the mink will be harder to guide because the pocket will be larger, now if i can keep the set there i will just for coon and still goe a few feet and make another for mink, now for rats you can take a kitchen fork and cratch the bank up to look like a rat digging and this can even up the odds for rats and mink but less coon

Something to think about on your pocket sets is the more slicked up u make em the easier it is for thiefs to find. I use to slick up my pockets and now it is rare for me to do it as i have not seen any benefit to it. I feel if your on location with your mink set there is no need for it and it is just added time at the set. Now this is just my opinion and animals act a lil differant in differant area's so i feel it is something that should be tested both ways to see what works for you.
